No matter you are talking about hose or pipe hole , or other hole in the metal plane , caps and plugs play a important role in protection, from the end cap to push in plugs.
Rubber cap and plugs also can protect from dust , dirt ,moisture , liquids from entering . some can be recycled use . bellow is factors to chose the plug kind .
1. Material. You should chose the material according to rubber caps and plug application , does it for sealing or for masking , used in outdoor or indoor ?
2. Environment. Environment is also very important , you want your product used exposed to oil or water , if used for oil , then should chose the NBR material , other envoiroment should chose the corresponding material
3. Tempreture . if the tempreture is more than 135 degree , then should chose the fkm , silicone material .
4. Convience . A push fit cap or plug are not the easiest to remove. If fast removal is a priority, consider a solution with a pull tab .
